First night in the living room - die erste Nacht im Wohnzimmer

Im Tierheim hatte man mir gesagt, daß diese Kater sich erstmal an das Leben in einer Wohnung gewöhnen müssen. Daher sollen sie die ersten 6-8 Wochen nur in einem einzelnen Zimmer gehalten werden. Ich wählte dafür mein Wohnzimmer. Das ist eh der Raum, in dem ich mich am meisten aufhalte: da habe ich eine kleine Arbeitsecke, um im "Homeoffice" zu arbeiten, da esse ich Frühstück, Mittag- und Abendessen. Da kann ich auf dem L-förmigen Sofa sitzen und abends fernsehen. Oder ich arbeite an meinen Musikaufnahmen im "Musikstudio"-Setup.

Das Zimmer ist im Erdgeschoss, hat 2 große Fenster zum Rausschauen. Alles relativ eng, man kann noch durchlaufen. Das Sofa ist mehr als 30 Jahre alt, und der Sitzbezug hat bereits Risse und platzt auf. Also ideal, um es den Katern zur Verfügung zu stellen. Die können da ruhig noch weiter kratzen, das würde mir garnichts ausmachen. Es gibt 2 Türen: eine zum Flur und Treppenhaus hin, die andere zur Küche. Da muss ich natürlich oft durch, und ich muss dann immer sicherstellen, daß die beiden Kater brav irgendwo im Wohnzimmer sind.

Ich hatte ja schon alles vorbereitet für die beiden: Ess-Ecke für die Katzen eingerichtet, zwei Katzenklos mit Füllung befüllt, die Katzenbäume zum Klettern aufgestellt, die Katzenspielsachen auf das Sofa gelegt, und das Sofa teilweise mit einer Decke abgedeckt, um die aufgeplatzten Stellen zu verbergen und die Katzen nicht zu ermutigen, da weiter zu machen.

Um 22:00 beschloß ich dann, sie alleine zu lassen. Flint war ja immer noch in seiner Box, Socke hatte schon einiges erkundet und sich hinter dem Sofa versteckt. Ich stellte eine Webcam auf und setzte YouTube auf Live-Streaming. Dann ließ ich ein kleines Licht an und ging raus in mein Schlafzimmer im 1.Stock. Von dort beobachtete ich über das Streaming, was sich da im Wohnzimmer tat.

Nach einer Weile sah ich, wie auch Flint aus seiner Box kam und alles erkundete. Beide schlichen umher, zuerst ganz langsam und vorsichtig, dann auch mal schneller. Anscheinend gefiel ihnen alles. Flint war besonders begeistert von meinem kleinen Laub-Baum, an dem noch die Weihnachtskugeln hingen. Ich sah auf dem Video, wie er sich dagegen lehnte, und wie dann der Baum, der nur in einem Eimer mit Erde steckte, umfiel. Also ging ich schnell runter ins Wohnzimmer und stellte den Baum wieder auf. Die beiden hatten sich sofort wieder hinter dem Sofa versteckt.

Danach war alles OK - ich schaute am nächsten Tag auf das Video und sah keine besonderen Vorkommnisse mehr.

In the animal shelter I was told that the two cats would first have to get used to living in an apartment. Therefore they should be kept for the first 6-8 weeks in only one room. For this I chose my living room. It is the room in which I stay most of the time: I have a small corner with desk for working in "Homeoffice", I have breakfast, lunch and dinner in that room, I sit on the L-shaped sofa and watch TV in the evening, and I work on my music recordings on the music studio setup.

The room is on the ground floor, has 2 large windows to look outside. Everything is quite narrow in the room, but one can walk through OK. The sofa is more than 30 years old, and the fabric has a few cuts and is falling apart. Ideal to let the two cats have it. They can scratch it even more, I do not mind. There are 2 doors: one to the lobby and the staircase, the other to the kitchen. I often have to go through these doors and so these need to be closed all the time so that the cats remain in the living room. 

I already had prepare everything for them: food corner, cat loo, cat trees for climbing, cat toys on the sofa, and a blanket covering parts of the sofa to hide the damaged parts, so as not to encourage the cats to destroy the sofa even more.

At 10 pm I decide to leave them alone. Flint was still in his box, Socks had already explored a few things and was hiding behind the sofa. I put a webcam on a tripod and started YouTube live streaming. I left a small light switched on and went upstairs to my bedroom. From there I watched the two in the living room via streaming. 

After a while I saw how Flint came out of his Box and also inspected everything in the room. Both cats walked around, first slowly, then faster. Apparently they liked everything. Flint was especially excited about my little tree, which still had the Christmas spheres hanging on it. I saw on the vide how he leaned against it - and how then the tree which is just planted in a bucket with earth, fell down. So I quickly went down to the living room and put the tree up again. The two cats had bidden behind the sofa.

After that everything was fine for the night. The next day I watched the video and did not see any special occurrences anymore.
